A great country song about soldiers is "Stand our Ground" by Corey Smith. He's an up-and-coming country singer who is really popular on college campuses. Check him out, you won't be disappointed!

An older song is "I'm Mr. Lonely" about a soldier and no one writes to him, very sad, by Bobby Vinton. I listen to it on imeem but I'm sure it's lots of places.

The first gold record in country history was for Elton Britt's "There's a Star-Spangled Banner Waving Somewhere," which technically is not about a soldier but a disabled man who wants to join the Army to "help bring the Axis down." It's an incredible song.
The Louvin Brothers' 1961 album "The Weapon of Prayer" is filled with songs about the military: "Mother I Thank You For the Bible You Gave" (where a soldier is shot in the chest but the Bible his mother gave him before he left, which he carried in his shirt pocket, stopped the bullet), "Searching for a Soldier's Grave," "At Mail Call Today," etc.
