To tell you the truth, this guy is one of the best teachers I've had. He's up there on my top list of teachers. Probably #2 or 3.

Probably the behavior is his shtick or act . Some teachers do things like that with a half grin. Not my thing, but obviously works for you. Actually, it could be quite funny. There are comedians who make their life work out of this. Think of Roseanne who made all her money being very sarcastic.

Obviously he doesn't mind being politically incorrect, like calling students "retards." That is kind of mean. Still he probably gets some kids to learn who wouldn't otherwise.

When I was a teacher I had to restrain my sarcasm because I didn't want to say hurtful things. However, I wasn't always successful and some stuff did get out. Like continuously, but I was pretty good at separating what was mean and what was funny.

I have to say my kids loved me. I also had a sense of play and said some really weird things sometimes. Kids often couldn't tell if I was kidding or not. This was a good thing. Keep them guessing I always say. At least I had their attention.

So if this teacher worked for you, he was obviously good for you. Too bad if you were really stupid or retarded. That might have hit some kids close to home, which can last forever.

He could be. Sounds like he was idealistic, then got frustrated with kids who had no work ethic. Certainly a realist, but he sounds off, which isn't so professional. Does he teach a good bit of the time?

The first entry sounds like it was written by an idiot, the type of student that this teacher is ranting about.

It sounds like he genuinely cares whether a student understands the information he is trying to impart, but the distraction of his whining would knock him down a bit on my good-teacher/bad-teacher scale.

If you learn a lot and don't mind his complaining, then yeah, he's a good teacher for you.

If it's too much for you to bear that he goes on and on about people being stupid and lazy and to never go into teaching, then he's not a great teacher for you.

You seem to like him/or at least the way he teaches. So, if you can handle it then why complain.

I do have to disagree with him on the fact that he thinks teaching sucks. I love my job and can not see myself doing anything else. I teach high school chemistry and physics.

His personal life choices shouldn't be included in his analysis as a teacher...if he likes screamo music and smokes, that's his choice.
However, tell us a little more about the context in which he uses the traits you describe....classroom setting, environment, etc.?

uh, ok i think he shouldnt be a teacher if he hates it so much and complains about it. and calling all his students stupid and reatards and all those other names is not caring unless hes like being sarcastic or joking or something like that.

He's a little off base... a poor example, and he the responsibility to be a good example.

It doesn't seem like he has the best attitude, but if students are learning, he may not be that bad.
