Several of these suggestions are good, but the solution is in your cupboard. Sprinkle baking soda on it, then pour a small amount of white vinegar over the soda. After it stops fizzing, scrub lightly with a dishcloth or a Dobie sponge. If there's a lot of rust it might take more than one application. If so, let it sit a little longer before scrubbing. My favorite thing about this method (other than the fact that it's worked every time for me) is that it's non-toxic. It's also less expensive than most of the other things mentioned.

No joke...Coca-Cola dissolves rust from metal, so maybe it does on porcelain too. Other than that, I suggest filling the sink with hot water and adding 3-4 cups of bleach and let stand for a couple of hours.

There's a cleanser called Zud made especially for this problem. It works great and can even lighten up really old rust stains. Most grocery stores, Kmarts and Walmarts should carry this with all other cleansers. (04/26/2005)

MAke a paste out of baking soda and scrub. You can also leave it on for a while then wash it off. Works great on turning porcelain white, not sure it will remove rust.
