ok here is the answer not just for you, but far all those kids out there asking here on Yahoo answers about what bike they should get....and this may sound a little blunt, so I apologize in advance.....
all bikes are pretty much the same. it comes down to what color of bike you want. You are not Bubba Stewart or Ricky Carmichael, so any bike will suit you just fine. But seeing that you want a smaller bike, the question you really need to be asking is to your parents. I take it you may not have a job yet, and may not be able to afford a 6000 dollar brand new bike, so you may need to talk to them first. If you do have a job and can pay for it, thats great too, but look at the payments and stuff like that first.
A lot of people here will say one brand is better than the other. If you buy from Honda, Yamaha, KTM, Suzuki or Kawasaki, you are buying a quality motorcycle. I would receommend staying away from the Korean and Chinese bikes....
Now do you plan on racing this bike?
Do you plan on just riding this bike?
How big of a person are you?
will you grow any more?
what kind of riding will you be doing?
you need to ask yourself these questions to make a decision on a bike. Because all these factors will weigh themselves in AFTER you buy the bike....
you do not want to buy a bike that you will outgrow in a year, unless you plan on buying a new bike next year too....
you do not want to buy a motocross bike if you will be riding up on the trails in the mountains, and you do not want to buy a trail bike if you will be riding tracks....you get my drift......
buy a bike that has enough power for you so we dont have to answer the next question you hae...like...
how can i make my bike go faster?
or
how can I mod out my bike?
buy a quality bike, that comes stock with enough power to haul you around, but has some left in reserve.
Buy a bike that you will have fun on too.
NOW.... its time to look at bikes and what you want on them.....
KTM offeres a MX bike with an E-start, which is a really cool idea, you do not have to kisck start a cold bike, but just push a button.....
The other japanese bikes are all great choices as well. Like I said before it all comes down to what color you want.....
Now you said in your question that you wanted a 4 stroke, but a 125? or a 150? or a 230 or a 250?
I will tell you that a 4 stroke 125, 150 and a 230 do not make that much power. I have a Yamaha TTR 125 I use as a pit bike, just to dink around on.....
Those bikes you mentioned are primarily used for younger kids that just do desert or trail riding. If you plan to do some serious off road riding, and a little motocross mixed in there, I would look and stay with the 250 four stroke....
The Honda offers it in the CRF form, Yamaha is the YZf form, the Kawasaki is in the KXf form and the Suzuki is the RMZ form....
KTM offers the 250 in several packages that you can choose from, like the SX, the EXCR and the MXCR....
Now if a 250 full sized 4 stroke is too big for you, Honda makes a full race CRF 150. This bike is about the size of a CR 85 two stroke race bike. again this bike is made for a racer or aggresive rider....
Now its time to go to your local dealership and ask these questions. Sit on all the bikes, and see what model fits you the best. what I mean is that some bike will feel bigger than others and some will feel smaller than others.
remember the questions you need to ask when looking for a new bike......
Do not buy the first one you see, just because it looks cool, if that model is cool, go look at the other models first. You canalways go back later if you decide that its the one you want.....
Now as far as pricing goes. Depending on the amount of cash you have or the credit you have, you DO NOT have to pay the price the sales man says or the sticker price.....
Go in there asking questions and see what he will do to accomodate you and your needs. Do not tell him or show him the cash, just say that you are willing ony to spend so much.....
and do this at several DIFFERENT dealerships. Then use that info you get to talk down the price from dealership to dealership.....
