I bought a PNY 1gb RAM stick (one piece) DDR PC3200 400mhz/333mhz/266mhz gold plated, OPtima memory i have not opened it and would like to know if it is compatible. Thank You. PLease help as this is a xmas present and i dont wanna get the wrong kind. thanks in advance

You bought it without knowing if it was compatible? Computers are sensitive to RAM(I know, from experience) and you MUST have the correct RAM, or your computer won't work at all. Go to the Gateway site and check the computer specs for the type of RAM used. If you have the manual, check what it says. If neither of these are available to you, open the computer and look at what RAM is already there and if there is an available slot.

I have some friends who have used Gateway before and had a very difficult time upgrading the RAM, it is so specific. Chances are, what you bought won't work.
