Let the iron get cold and use steel wool ( you can get steel wool at any hardware store or in the houswares aisle at the supermarket).

Use baking soda and salt when iron cools. And stop scorching your fabrics. You are ironing your garments on too high of setting.

baking soda and salt mixed together. Just make sure to rinse it well before heating it up again. sos pad with the soap rinsed out is good also.
