Oh I think you shouold. You can sort of see if the feelings are mutual. Try telling him and see what happens trust me this could be for a very good cause. You don´t lose anything for trying and if he says he loves you back then it will be great!

You should always tell people you love them (if you do) because you never know when you might not be able to say it. I do and it has never steered me wrong before :)
