With only half the world's people able to get clean drinking water each day, with half the world's people burning wood to cook their daily meals (contributing to deforestation/desertification, green house emissions, soil erosion and loss of arable land), with some societies discounting/ignoring half the brain power of their nation based on gender or ethnicity, when avarice and greed assign monetary value to decide to take action or not, when 5% of the world's population consumes 25% of the world's resources, and when so many societies voice nice sounding ideas that few of their members put into practice....it is time for all people of the world to step back, reflect on what they say and do each day and ask...."what have I done for others to help make this world a better place?"...."what have I done for others, not thinking of what is in it for me?"

We all live on planet Earth...the only place in our solar system we can call home. The only place that can support this precious gift we call life. There is no emergency escape when the natural systems crash and fail. We are all in this together.

i know tons of people that just do volunteer work or donate because of extra credit or because it looks good in a college application. but that's not me..
i pity people who don't do the right things for the right reasons
i volunteer a lot of my time to help as much as possible!
and i donate because i care.
the world needs more people who just do things for the sake of just helping out.. what happened to people and their priorities?

Im sorry to say that the answer is nothing, and that when you look into the deep roots of motivation in anyone, the answer will always be the same.

I have always donated money, I do maybe 150 hours of service every year. But people do good things because they would feel guilty if they didn't, that they feel better that they did it, or that in the end it helps them. But when you look at each of these reasons, they all involve the effect on the self, making yourself happier or preventing pain (guilt). Im not saying people don't have good intentions, its just cognitively peoples motivations are never selfless.
