It was not so much a "disaster" as it was a pain in the butt:
I moved away from home right after graduating high school in 1980. That Christmas I was traveling back home to visit, and the weather grounded most flights. So, I spent a lovely Christmas Eve and most of Christmas day inside an airport terminal.
Ho ho ho!

Nothing in the way of a true tragedy such as illness or the death of a loved one.
On a lighter note: Christmas tree fell over broke many of my collector ornaments plus treasured family ones. The dog ate the entire Christmas ham plus half the turkey and was REALLY sick. It was freezing cold, had a house full of company couldn't flush the toilets or run water to wash the dishes . A candle on the mantle set the wreath over the fireplace on fire. While serving the eggnog, another candle burned a big hole in my favorite silk blouse.
Still had a wonderful Christmas!

Yes. I spent Christmas of 1989 in the hospital with my leg broken in two places! I was hit by a car on the winter solstice, and the cast went well up my thigh. Fortunately, My Steve came to visit me and the nurse told me that if the door was closed, no one would bother us. So in spite of the plaster cast, we managed to have as merry a Christmas as possible. Took a little creativity, but we managed it!
So it wasn't a COMPLETE disaster! LOL

No. But your question cheered me up. Christmas disasters seem like funny things. Not at the time, of course, but you can look back and say "Remember when mom threw the turkey out the window and cousin Carl set the tree on fire...etc etc..".

It was a most funny "disaster", we are still laughing when we remember about it!! (usually every Christmas!)
When engaged, my parents were on Christmas holidays, I was left home alone and I was so happy I would spend these days with my fiancee. Christmas Eve, he , enthusiastically and with naughty thoughts, came home with champagne too. We ate, (my mother had left dinner for us two!), we drunk champagne, I got drowsy because alcohol does this thing to me and I fell asleep!!!! I wouldn't wake for anything!!! He passed the night watching TV and me by his side on the couch, sleeping like a baby.!!!

No disaster. But it used to be a fun time of year for me. Since 1980, not so much fun.

Does the fact that we're dirt poor and can't buy Christmas presents count?
