Nationally, do you have any idea how much money is wasted on unwanted xmas gifts every year? the numbers are in the BILLIONS
if someone else can use something that I don't want or don't have a need for, why am I going to hold on to it for 5 years until I find it in the closet and have to throw it away?

Yes, I do occassionally re-gift. If someone gives me something that I can not personally use for myself then I will find a way to use it even if that means giving it for a gift to another person who can use it. That has saved me money on buying a gift, made me happy by being able to give to another person, made that other person happy, and made that gift useful to me which was the original givers desire instead of it sitting in the closet forever. I dont do it to be mean and am not ashamed to tell the original giver. I feel like I am using the gift they gave me, that was the idea...that I use their gift. If at all possible though I will return it for something else I can use if I have the reciept...that is if it is something I honestly cant use or dont need.

It's certainly wrong to re-gift the same gift to the same person, but yes, i sometimes do. When I give a gift, I want that person to enjoy it. If they can't, maybe they can give it to someone who can, and my gift to them ends up being that my friend doesn't have to buy a present for the person who ends up getting the gift.

its not always wrong. My work just gave me a $25 gift card and i plan on re-gifting it to my sister. But if its like, a book that you've already read and have dog-eared pages then absoloutly. I wouldnt ever re-gift something that was opened or used. Thats just tacky.

Sometimes -but ONLY if there is no way for the original gifter to find out so I don't hurt their feelings.
I have only done it with things from distant relatives that don't know me well enough to pick out something I like or would ever use.
