They wanted not to be murdered by the millions. Not to be rejected by other nations like the USA and the United Kingdom, forcing them back to Germany so Hitler could say, no one wants them...see.
As to the Reform/Conservative issue, Larry, The Conservative Jews were from Eastern Europe, got to America, and embaressed the Reform Jews, who came up with the middle ground, i.e. the Conservative movement.

It depends on which Jews we are speaking of.

The Jews in Central and Eastern Europe were divided by those who were interested in Integration (the modern Conservative and Reform movements) and the more orthodox jews. That was the major fissure in the Jewish community in holocaust europe so that would interest their survival needs

I'm Jewish and basically we were worried about getting our families back together and to be able to stay away from Germany and Poland so we couldn't get caught...if we were in Germany or Poland we were trying to stay hidden in secret rooms and hoped that our hiders wouldn't betray us and send us to a concentration camp.
(I wasn't even alive during the Holocaust but I know a lot about it.)

Survival, my friend.

A good moral friend like Miep for the Frank family in Holland -- somebody who would bring you food in your hiding place and not betray you (through either deliberate treachery or accidental stupidity).

Escape, maybe from the Lodz ghetto to behind the Soviet border. Going into the Red Army sure as hell wasn't paradise, but it beats the hell out of a death camp.

A need for the Allies to win the war, and to do it as fast as possible.

A need for Jewish guys to conceal their circumcision -- a giveaway -- at all costs.

I'm not Jewish but I would say their needs and wants were the same as those of most people - to be safe and to live their lives as they see fit. Hitler took all of that away.

Ask yourself, what would be your needs and wants during this time period? How would you feel seeing the Nazis coming to take you away to a death camp. How would you feel? I suggest before asking such a question that you put yourself in the same position and think it out.
