I was staying with a friend in the city last night ... during the night someone picked the lock on my car door and broke into it. The inside of my car was completely trashed! Everything in the glove box and middle console was thrown everywhere. I looked through my stuff and I do not think that anything was stolen. They left my school parking permit, sunglasses, cd's, change, and they even left my checkbook!!! I was so surprised that they did not steal any of this! It was all hidden though - I do not leave anything like that in plain sight. I did have some ATM receipts with my Account # on it and a paycheck stub (no check, just stub). I am just at a loss? Why break in, trash my car and not even take anything ... a checkbook is just as good as cash? I am very very thankful that they did not take anything, but I just don't understand what the point of it was. No windows were broken or anything. My best guess is that they were looking for Xmas presents???

Tweekers..Yup..I live in an area of high Meth use. I've seen this several times where they get some wild idea in their head that they here a screeching cat and they try to find it..or they need a little bolt for some midnight project they're up to..I know of someone who went looking for a battery to mount on his lawnmower so he could power some lights he mounted on it because he said the grass was trying to grow up into his nostrils..and he could only mow it at night because it grew during the day. He broke into several cars looking for a particular size of battery. Generally, they're harmless..unless they think you look like some demon in their head.

Like some others said all they need is your name and account number. I wouldn't take a chance. While it may be a bit inconvenient I'd have the bank close that account, with just enough balance to cover what I knew was out and open a new account. Better safe than sorry.

Who knows what these low lives think! At least you are safe and it sounds like nothing is stolen. Hope the interior of your car is intact. They may have been looking for money and figures checks may be too much of a trouble. After all, it's easier to pay cash than to leave a paper trial of personal checks.

They may have taken just one ATM receipt or just one check to get to your account.

Keep CLOSE eye on your account for a couple months to make sure that you are safe.

Cash, presents and most common of all -- a spare key. Seen it dozens of times...

Maybe it was a homeless bum who's honest but really sloppy but needed a place to sleep.
