"Question: What is a GEAR BOW??" Automatic or Standard? Mileage? If Automatic what does the Fluid Look and Smell Like? Sounds like Hyd. Pump, Bearings, Clutch in Transmission! Rebuild Time!!

NOTE; Good Transmission Shop to Confirm the Problem.

I have owned Ford for the last 15 years. First explorer's not the Expedition. They have a long history of power steering issues. This more noticeable at low speeds where air and road noise do not cover the sound.

I have never experienced any adverse effects from the noise other than the irritation of the sound.

Good luck.

You're on the right track, check for leaking lines going to the transmission oil cooler and don't drive without checking the auto trans fluid first. BIG BUCKS!

as you do not say if it has a automatic transmission or if it is a standard shift. i would guess that the clutch is slipping, if it is a standard shift. it may be time for a new clutch.

check to make sure it is NOT in 4x4 LOW - if it is in the 4x4 low range, check your owners manual on instructions on how to get it out of low.
