I don't. I am often just interested in hearing the opinions of others. I don't give a thumbs down if someone disagrees with mine. If you see a thumbs down to an answer that I have asked it was given by someone else.

Best answer means a lot to some people. It takes me a long time to choose sometimes. I try to choose carefully. It's true that if you leave it to the people, the first answer usually gets it.

I try to wait about 24 hours and then pick best answer..If the question seemed to lay stagnant, as in I posted a dud, I will pick best answer sooner to put the question out of it's misery, and out of my misery. The thing I have the most difficulty with are the questions I ask that need an answer based on a person's personal tastes, such as the one I asked about the most scenic place you've seen?Everyone has their own tastes so how do you choose one over the other, that is hard. Especially since I try hard not to just pick the ones that match my own views, that seems biased, I avoid bias. I never thumbs down and I always give a thumbs up as long as your answer applied to the topic, even if I may not agree with your answer, you get a thumbs up for contributing your time to my question. I give stars if I think your question was interesting.

Most of time. I have asked a couple Qs that I was more interested in feed back, or for some reason felt that I couldn't choose. What I have noticed is that very often the ans, with the most thumbs up is not chosen as best. When I first started I thought that was everyone voting, I finally figured it out, now I give lots of thumbs up.

I don't ask many questions, but when I do I always pick a best answer, and I give a thumbs up to all who take the time to answer. I feel that if I take the time to ask, then I should take the time to choose the best answer. I must say that many times there are many best answers and it is a difficult choice.

When I ask a lot of them, I sometimes miss the dealine when I get a lot of answers. I have to use the thumbs down just to eliminate the answers that are a definate NO in my mind. It isn't a personal attack, ...just a way to re-arrange the filing system that is set-in-stone!
My eyes aren't all that great & until I get a larger monitor, I really don't have much of a choice!
I don't let thumbs up or down influence my life in any way...people are entitled to use the services provided on this site for their own needs.

Oh Yes... I love giving points to people... It's such a nice thing to do don't you think? If they have taken the time to answer shouldn't I take the time to give a best answer.?. It just seems polite to me. I don't mind voting on best answers tho... for other peoples questions... if I get really bored this is what I do for something to do! LOL

And I'm always giving thumbs up... and I don't know why others are not doing this... it only takes a second, I take the time to read the answers so why not give someone credit for answering! And, almost always a Star from Me!

I always pick my own best answers

If someone took the time and trouble to answer my question, then I think that the least that I can do is pick my best answer.

as others have stated here - a lot of times when it goes to a vote, the best answer usually (not always) goes to the first person that answered. I saw one here tonight that the first answer was something like uhm what
that is nothing but points gaining - and is crap - that's not even an answer

edit : so sorry - the answer was "erm - OK" - some answer !!

More often than not, I pick a best answer. I give a thumbs down if someone gets nasty, or calls names. Its a shame to have to teach adults manners, but I like to let people like that know they are rude.

Usually I try to give a best answer. But there are those times when too many best answers too choose from leave me no choice but to leave it to a community vote. I lose the points, but its worth having others opinion.
