It's pretty gross actually...they fly apart into pieces, sometimes the head is left, but severely damaged. Other times there is nothing left but mush, and you can't tell what any part is. I've never heard of them sending anything back to the family, but they have thrown it away in the garbage..the body parts, and also just "wash" the area and all the left overs down into their so called gutter...lots of time, the stuff just stays there. Not a pretty sight. Why do you want to know?

A different question : I have my doubts if there is much left of the head for ID purposes at least. To ID the bomber him/her self would matter very little. It the affillation to the bombing that counts. Residue from the bomb, the material ect, would be a great starting point . In a bombing there is just so much pressure that very little would be left I'm sure

A fair question and one that should be answered thoughtfully.
I would hope that it would be kept as evidence as part of the crime scene. You never know when it might have to be presented in a court of law. In this case, I'm sure they would freeze the head.
The rest of the pieces should probably be incinerated like they do with medical waste, i.e. Uncle Fred's appendix that he had taken out.

they don't necessarily have to ID the person by their head, all they need is a little bit of DNA..
what they should do is spit on the body parts, stomp all over them then ship them to hell and make the bomber eat them

There was a rumor that they feed it to pigs, as a special punishment for the bomber's relatives.

well, sometimes all the parts are incinerated in the blast(most times anyways) the rest is seized by the police or other counterterrorism units to help with their investigation
