Why do I keep having my period late? I lost a few pounds when I started eating less fast food but I'm still eating enough. I'm a few pounds underweight but not much. I reallly only lost like 5 pounds. Could this be part of the reason why? Last time it came 2 weeks late and this time around its been over 2 weeks and I havn't gotten it. Am I ok? There's no way I can go to the doctor cause my family won't let me. Could there be something wrong with me?

I already asked them if I could go to the doctor and they said no.

I'm 14 almost 15. I used to get them every 28-30 days. They won't let me go because they're greedy b***es.

When did you start your period? It can take a year or longer for it to regulate.

Weight changes and diet can affect your period....stress, medications, hormone changes can do it as well.

Usually doctors don't get concerned until it has been 6 months to a year without a period.

I wouldn't worry to much about it. The average cycle is between 28-31 days.

OK, how old are you? From the fact that your family will not let you see a doctor, and this stops you, I am going to guess under 16. If you have been getting your period for less than two years, you can expect it to be irregular (not normal IS normal). Also, if you need a doctor, they cannot really stop you from going, to get an check up at a gynecologist 13 is the age of consent. Try to find a Planned Parenthood nearby (everything there is free for teenagers) or talk to your school nurse.

If you are underweight, that can be another cause for late, light, or skipped periods. Are you really eating enough? Poor nutrition will cause you to stop getting your period.

I've kept records for 20 years on ALL my periods right from the start. The first year I didn't even have them for 6 months, they came sporatic, I'd miss a month, or two months in a row then get them again. After that they settled down, but they varied from 28-30 days apart. And in the first couple of years there were actually four months where I got my period twice in a month for no reason whatsoever.

Periods vary. Keep a record, which you can show to the doctor at your next physical, but usually you'll see that they even out after a while. Don't stress it, it's normal with some people.

It is easy to be worried when things happen like this but take heart. It is perfectly normal for a young woman's periods to be a irregular in the first few years.

Until things settle down you will need be really aware of the signs you are going to start your period (bloating, sugar cravings, maybe a new pimple or mood swings etc) so that you don't get caught out without any sanitary products.

okay first off why wouldn't you be able to go to the doctor? It may have nothing to do with weight loss - especially that low. It could be hormones, it could be any prescriptions you are on, it could be you are pregnant and spotting, it could be an actual medical problem, or caused by stress.
GO TO THE DOCTOR, I am sure your family will let you.

How old are you and how regular are your periods? Why won't your family let you go to the doctor?

If your parents wont let you go to the doctors to have you looked at...that's actually considered child abuse.

Tell them you're concerned, and you NEED to be looked at by an OB/GYN. If they still wont budge, then talk to one of your good friends mothers, and have her schedule the appointment. Also have her take you.
