I had been in San Francisco in 2005 just in time for the Thanksgiving and Christmas season. I stayed there for a month and another month in Concord, which is also in the Bay Area.

First buy a map or be familiar where you are going. San Francisco is just a small city and
you can go there with just a map and hop in at the buses. Parking is so expensive there that even residents dont bring their car to work.

Definitely first thing is to locate where the cable car is! It is in downtown and in Powell St. It will pause at the postcard view of Alcatraz. The trip will end in Pier 33. There explore the area. There are restaurants there! There are also trips there downtown or the surrounding areas like Muir Woods, Monterey, the wine counties like Napa and Sonoma! Downtown trip 2 years ago was about $25, trip to these surrounding areas will cost about a hundred dollars. If you are interested in the Hop in tour, then register there first before having a lunch ! They usually wait for people to register.

You can buy souvernirs in this area or in Chinatown. I suggest a miniature cable car which i missed buying! Remember that it is expensive there! tax is highest at around
8.5 % on top of the tag price.

I suggest that you also take a round trip around the bay area using the BART which is also just besides the cable car in Powell. Daly City is just nearby, it is where residents go for shopping! Parking there is better and department store such as Target has a good parking space. Try also the In and Out burgers there in Daly City.

Are you a person interested in museums? There are lots of museums in Sanfo, try searching the web for this.

Dont forget the Victorian houses, Golden Gate Bridge, see the crookedest street there, Lombard st. Union Square is just walking distance to Powell street.

IF you are driving, CAUTION on the up and down streets of San Francisco near Geary street and be careful when parking your care.

It is a bit windy there when it rains! My umbrella turned upside down. My jacket wasnt enough for the rains I experienced one Sunday morning.

There are many Chinese restaurants in San Bruno! There is also an Italian neighborhood in downtown SANFO.

Dont forget that is you ride Muni buses, you can transfer ride from 1 bus to another as long as it is within the time frame that it was stamped, i think 2 hours.

If you have more time try going to San Jose and there are outlet stores there!

Happy trip! I suggest that you explore yahooa travel, go to US, then cities! There are suggested top 10 places to explore and there are addresses and also a slideshow of places to visit.

Ride the cable cars..so see the Pampanito Submarine and the Liberty ship (on the same pier). Go to the Academy of Sciences, Japanese Gardens in Golden Gate Park. Drive/walk across the Golden Gate and go to Saucalito for dinner. Take the ferry to Alcatraz island, and go under the bridge by boat. If you watch the movie "Vertigo", you can see all the spots that were shown in the movie (look on youtube"Vertigo Revisited" so see the places). I think there is an aircraft carrier museum in Oakland. Hiller aviation museum is at the southern edge of town. Gilroy has outlets, San Juan Bautista was in the movie, It's south of Gilroy on Hiway 101. Try Santa Cruz, and the Shadowbrook restaurant in Capitola, (featured in Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous). They have a trolley that goes down to the restaurant, very pretty. Lots of shopping in China Town, restaurants galor, Giradelli's Square..have fun..I forgot..Coit tower..
