I've set my Facebook profile to private, but I've heard that some companies or individuals can still purchase my profile and information. Does anyone know if that's true?

There is no straight answer to your question since Facebook's privacy terms are written in "legalese" which requires a lawyer to read and interpret. Everyone joining Facebook should read the terms and especially their privacy terms at http://www.facebook.com/policy.php, and if you have questions regarding a specific issue, like the one you raised, contact them at privacy@facebook.com.

all they have to do is hack the account just like they do myspace private accounts. no one wants to buy an account, so they just hack the accounts with viruses. send the virus to one person, their accound becomes infected and everytime their friends goto the infected page, the become infected. the virus gives an illusion that the account is private. if you dont set your account to private, then the hackers will leave u alone, cause ur not hiding anything, so what is their to look for.
