If you're having a hard time reading Heart of Darkness, you may want to watch the movie "Apocalypse Now" - it's a modern day adaptation, and should help the book make sense.

well, towards the end of the book the protagonist tried to have someone else do his homework because he didn't have enough self discipline to get through a book that he didnt have the cognitive capacity to read and he got horribly rejected. Remember that part? You could use that. Hope this helps. Good luck!

er...while Marlow isn't really a racist person, as he was brought up in a western society he has certain values which would now days be considered racist.
fresleven( the captain who killed a tribal leader, who was then killed, leading to Marlow getting his position), - thought that he was better the the tribal people

Marlow - with the helmsman - lying to him about what would happen if the water in the boiler ran out

the most obvious one is Kurtz, who wants to 'exterminate all the brutes'

you could also look at derogatory word like '*****'(and worse) and 'dog'
