I was watching a programme called universe and to my amazement, there are more stars out there than grains of sand on all the beaches in the world. Do you think the odds on finding life out there is quite high?

Of course there's other life in the universe. To think otherwise would be small-minded. Think about it: there are millions of galaxies in the universe and in those millions of galaxies are millions of solar systems. The odds of there being no other life whatsoever are infinitely small.

What would be the chances of finding a single grain of sand that by sheer chance had the Encyclopedia Brittanica etched microscopically onto it's surface by the vigors of nature? You see sheer numbers don't necesarily make up for sheer improbability.

We don't know all the factors that have made the earth inhabitable, and kept it that way for billions of years, but the factors that have shaped the Earth and maintained it may only rarely if ever have happened elsewhere in this galaxy.

Even if numbers have overcome improbability in a far distant galaxy, there is no evidence yet that we would be able to detect it. For the implications of this, try asking the philosophers the following question:

"If life exists at a distant point in the universe and we don't know of it, then does it really exist?".

There's an method of estimating the chances of life elsewhere in the universe called Drake's Equation (look it up on wikipedia). It's relatively arbitrary what values you assign to the various coefficients but I think (and it's only an opinion) that it's almost a certainty there are other planets with life in the universe. Unfortunately we'll never know for sure because they're all far to far away to ever be reachable.

We are the only grand of sand on the beaches of the earth that has life on it..

They say that is how many planets are potential in all the universe

We are the best God could do.

He couldn't do any better or he would have.

All the of the stars are in the sky to make it look fascinating at night and so we would not be scared in the dark

Only a fool would think there is something smarter than us Humans

We were made in the image of God How we are is how he is.

Any one else top my reason why we are the only intelligent life in all the universe

Had this debate at home with friends last week, now if you believe what the bible says then according to some of my friends we are the only planet with human life. Some said that there is life outside of Earth, as there are planets yet to be discovered and explored. Who is to really say as we are still young in space travel.

Did you deliberately ask about "finding" life out there as opposed to life simply existing somewhere else?

I can easily believe that other forms of life of some sort are out there somewhere. Our chances of locating it are pretty lousy, though.

It would be quite a thrill to someday detect an intelligent signal from out there. I would love that. Fingers crossed.

Defiantly not. You only have to look up in the sky and look at the millions of stars out there in space. it's pretty inconceivable to think that there is'nt another planet like earth going round another star somewhere.

One day we will know.

idk really, there are so many other galaxies in the universe, that we can't be too sure if we are the only lifeforms. there could be other planets with other types lifeforms, or people too. we just don't have the technology, yet, to find out. i mean the farthest we have ever sent an actual human was the moon. so maybe we ARE maybe we AREN'T. it's kinda hard to believe that we are the only living lifeforms in the whole UNIVERSE though. i hope this helped, and if it didn't sorry.

It would be a waste of space it we were alone, finding life maybe a possibility, finding intellegent life is another matter, though sometimes the way this planet is run, finding intellegent life here maybe a start!

Yes, we are a tiny unique spec in a little corner of this astronomical Universe. This is the only Planet where we can eat delicous mango and avocadoes.
