Should I get XP or Vista? Which one is better with media and gaming? (I know that stuff matters with the cards I have but I think the system has something to do with it too).

Some of this is only 2nd hand information - I've never used vista yet.

If you go with Vista, boost the memory and CPU speed to above average. From what I hear, it's a real resource hog. Mr. Softy is billing it as a safe, secure environment. Part of that, I'm told, is that it asks you each and every time a security risk might happen. Some people say it pesters you about asking "Should this program be allowed access?" until you turn that ask feature off.

Also, Vista is somewhat new yet, and there's always bugs left to be found. XP, on the other hand, has been around long enough that most of the bugs have been found and fixed. And most programs and applications that come out are fairly good about being backward compatible, meaning you can use it on the current and previous versions of the OS.

I'm told that if you push the vendors, you can "downgrade" your purchase to get XP on a new pc yet. But you'll have to ask about it when you buy.

I have both XP AND Vista.
Vista has higher UGI (user graphic interface) yea as everyone knows...but its very unstable. I am having trouble installing somethings and trouble uninstalling others. It crashes a lot. You can't find anything hardly. It was suppose to be easier to use? its harder. You REALLY need to learn the ropes. I am surprised many people even have vista. XP is much better for everything. So far the only thing good about vista I was that it came with better sample pics. Thats like it.

XP was and still is the best OS to ever be created and I have 4 of them. (also have knoppix and ubuntu)

Yea go with XP
