(I am african american, it just happens that both my mom and dad are light skinned) we use it so much, and i for one am appalled for i think that any african american person today is too good to be called the n-word, because im sure no person wants to be a slave and i have never used the word in my life

The meaning of a word often evolves with the society it's used in. I think 20 years ago, if you called a person black, they would've found it more offencive then if you'ld 've called them a *****.

The ethymology has a very bad history, agreed. But the use today (amongst Afro-Americans) is commonly not seen as offencive. Quite the opposite even, it's bonding. Like "we are black, and they are different". If you use that word, you feel like you're part of a group, and that's not a bad thing necessarily.

To me, all people are equal and I don't really get the destinction you make in America. When I see Barack Obama and the voice on the tv calls him black, I often think to myself "If Arnold Schwarzenegger would lay in his CA sun a bit more, he'ld be more black than Obama, you know what I'm saying"
In this age, our age, we are all people and we're equal, the way it's supposed to be. I don't get all the fuzz about the color of the skin...

Because they are told by their leaders it is okay to use them but if a whit person does, there is hell to pay. When it started, I'm not sure, but if blacks keep going down the raod they are going they will implode as a culture and group.

Well its " cool " and " hip " and because most African Americans haven't a clue what it was like in slavery days and see no reason not to use it .

Maybe they want a word all to themselves. I have no idea but I really hate the word.

First it was colored, then *****, then Afro-American, then black, and now the politically correct term is African-American, which seems as vague as European-American.

I will be glad to call them whatever they agree upon, but I have not nor will I ever use the "n" word, and NEITHER SHOULD ANYONE ELSE.
