A little bit of info: I am currently 40 weeks and 1 days. My doctor stripped my membranes 3 days ago. Also at that time I was 60% effaced and 2 centimeters dilated. She had me make an appointment to be induced this coming Wednesday, in case I don't go into labor before then. I should have asked her, but didn't think about it until later. Also my appointment is at the womens clinic (where I have my doctors visits) not the hospital....

The questions:
1. What are the different ways they induce labor?

2. Do they send you home afterwards and make you wait until your contractions are 5 minuets apart?

3. Typically how long after they induce you do you go into active labor/have your baby?

1. Since your cervix is 60% and 2cm (maybe more by that time) you would probably not need cervical ripening medications like gel or cervidil. They will opt to either start you on pitocin through IV, or break your water, or both.

2. Once the induction begins, you will need to be continuously on the monitor and they will not send you home. Inducing labor is an invasive procedure - it is forcing your body to do something it wasn't ready to do on it's own. Anytime you do that, you increase potential risks to your and baby's health, therefore you need to be observed by professionals.

3. It's way too variable to predict. You might go into active labor within an hour or two, or it might take several hours until the pitocin is at a high enough rate to really cause strong regular contractions that cause cervical change. But typically, if a pitocin induction, your labor will not usually be more than 12 hours or so. You will definitely deliver the same day.

I was induced with my second child at 8am and had him at 10:57 am. It can sometimes go very quickly, but that's more likely if it is not your first baby.

Good luck.

Just permit your frame do it is possess factor. But strolling does support. I labored up till two days earlier than my induction, I consider the recreation helped me. You would come to be going into exertions your self besides. When I used to be pregnant, I went for my 39 week appointment on a Thursday and I wasn't dilated in any respect, my OB mentioned my cervix used to be nonetheless rough and top. I used to be scheduled to be caused on a Monday. By the time I went in on Monday I used to be 3cm dilated. Just stroll! And be energetic. Good success~

They typically break your water and start infusing pitocin which makes your uterus contract. They don't send you home, you'll be admitted to the hospital. Once they rupture your membranes (break your water) the guideline is generally 24 hours in which you should deliver your baby. Congratulations and good luck!!
