I have been married 27 years and always put effort into it. I leave messages on the bathroom mirror so after his shower the steam makes them appear. I put little cards in his lunch box. If I go out of town I place slips of paper in obvious places like taped to the tooth paste tube, on the milk jug, in the sugar bowl, in his box of cereal, etc. All the slips have little sweet messages : ILYB: you work hard for our family, ILYB: you let me have the last word, etc. ILYB is I Love You Becauase.
I try to make plans once a year for a secret day together. I will pack a suitcase the day before and when we get up I tell him to get dressed in something appropriate and leave for a day in the big city, or just a few hours away to someplace we haven't explored, or even to the motor park speedway. There are many, many things I do. The divorce rate is so high these days because people forget to keep the romance alive.

It is not my responsibility to put anything there it is my responsibility to keep the spark in my eye then we can share because if it is there it well always be over there. Never false.

After a few decades I would say laughter, respect and companionship are equally as important! But you definitely want to keep them interested, problem is they're not the only ones interested. But that definitely works for you too! LOL
