A $2 bill is worth the same today as it has always been at the time it is spent, $2. In the 1950s, it was worth $2 of goods or services, and today it's worth $2 of goods or services. The thing is, inflation eats away at the buying power of cash. The 1950 $2 bill went a lot farther than one does now. That's why it's foolish to hoard cash and change. Money needs to be invested so that it will grow, hopefully, faster than the rate of inflation.

$2 bills haven't been taken out of circulation. They were never popular with the public as currency and the bill was only brought back for a short time in 1976 for the US Bicentennial. They are still valid currency.
