$1000 is not all that much in some areas. My house payment is just a bit under that, and I got a great deal many years ago. If you were to buy my house today, and put 20% down, you would have a 30 year payment in the area of $1600 per month!! The average rental house in my area is about $1500.
I work hard. My wife works hard. We have made choices that have worked out for us! We both drive older cars. I could go to a dealer tomorrow and write a check for anything on the lot. I choose not to do so!
I do not live in an extravagant area, but it also is not the inner city! I would love to be able to pay $550 per month including utilities! Actually I pay almost that in utilities!
The cost of living in some areas is a lot higher than in others! In my area it is high!

Just Barely. For me personally its not a luxury to pay 1300 for a 2 bedroom, in fact here in California that's on the cheaper side. Its a struggle but I have no choice. I can't or rather wont live outside of california as of now and I cant find another townhouse for less than what I pay

Well, I've never paid more then 600 month for housing whetherI was buying or renting, but I have never lived in a large Metro area either. I never understand why people just don't buy and have a lower payment than rent anyways instead of giving it to somebody else. Credit isn't that big of deal anymore. I agree with you, it amazes me too how people afford that. Of course, with bigger cities, wages are higher along with the rat race and traffic. I'd rather make less and pay less and have a higher quality of life. I have a couple of acres and an older house and my payments are under 600. Depends where you choose to live and the lifestyle that goes with it.

$1000 a month????? That's half of what we pay for a one bedroom in San Jose. It's super expensive to live here. We can afford to pay because we both work and have no kids. Also, my husband has an MBA so he gets paid more.

You must live in a high cost of living state...We lived in NY and paid $1000 a month for a 1000 sq ft apartment... while in grad school...
We are finally back home and own a 2500 sq ft home on an acre of land in Texas we pay $1000 a month for it...Wow what a difference in the location of the country and what you can get for your income....
Good luck with the answers you will receive....
Good luck!!!!

Get a better job and raise your standard of living.
Are you settling for an hourly paying job or are you aspiring for more. Those that have more have made the decision not to settle for small paying jobs.

Some people can afford to rent places that are over $1000 a month.....others live way beyond their means to impress others....that is why our nation is in so much credit card debt...
