Why is there a need to have the African American press?

Not only to inform African Americans but to also inform to world on issued concerning America. African American people care about more than 20' rims and watching women be exploited on programs that BET distributes, so having an African American Press would be a breath of fresh air.

Your question likely comes from a misunderstanding of history. The African American press developed in a time when we were ignored by the media as a whole. As such African Americans developed thier own media.

From your perspective it may seem that it has changed but as an African American I can say that many of the issues important to us are still ignored by the medias. Worse yet, the images the mainstream media has of our community, looks nothing like the community I live in.

I do not understand you concern though. If you go to major cities in this country you will find media for virtually every community, Jewish, the various hispanic communities, Islamic, Irish, German, ect. ect. If you have access to them read them, it will give you a much more comprehensive view of whats going on in this world than CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox ever will.

Its called freedom of the press.

Because the greatest gift ever given to us humans by "creator", "god", "Goddess" or whatever you choose to believe in was "freewill".
Its their freedom of choice to report on things that are important to them.Its their freedom of choice to talk about whatever the heck they want to.

Its like asking why is there a need to have the Christian Press?

I suppose for some ignorance is bliss.Me I choose knowledge not on just 1 structural economy.
