Christmas is an annual holiday that celebrates the birth of Jesus. The date of the celebration is traditional, and is not considered to be his actual date of birth. Christmas festivities often combine the commemoration of Jesus' birth with various secular customs, many of which have been influenced by earlier winter festivals.
In most places around the world, Christmas Day is celebrated on December 25. Christmas Eve is the preceding day, December 24. In the United Kingdom and many countries of the Commonwealth, Boxing Day is the following day, December 26. In Catholic countries, Saint Stephen's Day or the Feast of St. Stephen is December 26. The Armenian Apostolic Church observes Christmas on January 6. Eastern Orthodox Churches that still use the Julian Calendar celebrate Christmas on the Julian version of 25 December, which is January 7 on the more widely used Gregorian calendar, because the two calendars are now 13 days apart.
The word Christmas originated as a contraction of "Christ's mass". It is derived from the Middle English Christemasse and Old English Cristes mæsse, a phrase first recorded in 1038, compounded from Old English derivatives of the Greek christos and the Latin missa.

Christmas is the Christian celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, who is considered the Son of God, and the savior of all people. With the birth of Christ, Christianity essentially begins; thus, Christmas also celebrates the beginning of Christianity.
Though Christmas is normally celebrated on the 25th of December, strong evidence suggests that Jesus may have in fact been born in the spring. Though many Christians date Christ’s birth as the end of the "Before Christ" or BC era, most believe Christ’s birth can actually be dated to 4 BC. This is a bit ironic, since the Christian era is thought to begin with the birth of Christ, but actually begins later.
Some of the images inexorably tied with Christmas are things like shepherds in the snow, and the fierce cold of a winter night when Jesus was born. This is an unlikely scenario, though it is quite possible that the Jews participating in the census and taxation were extremely crowded in Bethlehem.

Christmas today, is basically nothing more than an overrated holiday, which society has deemed it an obligation under pressure to buy presents for people that one day out of the year. It just isn't about the birth of Christ anymore. Some say it's about spending time with loved ones, and what-not. What, are they all busy the other 364 days of the year? Get together with them any time you want. Buy someone something anytime you want. You don't have to wait til Dec. 25th. Gifts are best appreciated when they're unexpected. Their reaction is much much better then. Try it sometime....you'll see. Christmas should be everyday.

Jesus was born in the spring(and they attended their flocks( baby sheep) by night. Baby sheep are born in the spring. Jesus was born to be your and my blood sacrifice on the cross and we celebrate this fact at Christmas. (Without the blood, there is no forgiveness) so we need to be thankful for such a great plan God came up with so we can have life with Him someday in His Kingdom.
