If the Kool aid was red, then you need a special red dye remover. Other colors are fairly easy to remove. Ace Hardware may carry Motsenbacher's Lift Off and I think they have a special red dye remover.

Smells......have you tried sprinkling the rugs with baking soda and leaving over night then vacuuming? That's the first step. After that you'll need to clean the rugs......start with an enzyme cleaner especially for pets. You can put this into a carpet shampooer. Yeah, it's tricky cleaning a rug.....put it on a tile surface, not wood, to clean.

I don't have any advice about the stains except for some carpet resolve cleaner. Fabreeze does really well to remove smells. You can also sprinkle some baking soda on the carpet, let it set all night, and then vaccum in the morning.

If your rugs are washable, add white vinegar to the rinse water for the smells. The White vinegar will boost your spot treatment you sprayed them with before washing if you add some during the washing too.
