All my life I have wanted so badly to have the talent of an artist so is it a skill that is able to be learned or do you have to be born with it?

Go to art school. Even the best drawers , best illustrators, those who have been born with talent go there to learn the rudiments of the craft and perfect their god given gifts.

People are born with different levels of hand-eye coordination, sure, but anyone who really wants to learn to draw can learn the various techniques involved, and anyone who draws regularly will develop their ability in time. Many people who are said to be born with a gift for drawing were really just encouraged from a young age and never made to feel like they couldn't draw. I was lucky enough to have always been told I was good at drawing even when I was scribbling the same incoherent crayon marks as every other little pup my age. Since I enjoyed scribbling and I was never discouraged, I kept on drawing. I eventually got decent at it, and the moment I developed a bit of skill, people started telling me I was born with a gift. Yep, I was, but I personally think it was the gift of having very encouraging friends and family, not some intangible magic ability. Okay, I'm done ranting.

So! If you live near any art museum or art supply store, check to see if they offer classes or if they recommend anyone in your area who does. Also do check out any how-to-draw books at the library like someone else suggested. Guidance in techniques is usually beneficial. Keep a sketchbook and draw anything you see, anywhere you are, anytime you can. Don't worry about how it turns out to start with. The more you keep on drawing, the better and better you'll get. People will be telling you that you must have been born with a gift for drawing before you know it.

Go to your library and check out ''how to'' books on drawing and read and study the books. Don't just go to the section with all the pictures hopeing to take a short cut. Being a good artist take time and practice. Anyone can learn to draw and knowing the fundamentals of drawing makes all the difference in the world. I used to do alot of detailed drawings when i was younger but figured out that people would much rather pay for a painting than a drawing. I had a friend and relative that were already way ahead of me in that department and to show you that if you really want to learn something it can be done, i went to the library and checked out just about every art book they had on both drawing and painting. Didn't draw or paint anything for awhile just studied the books. Took alot of practice but people now hire me to do paintings for them. Born with it or not it still takes studying and practice.

You can learn how it in just over a minute.
I know how you feel! I felt that way when I was eight years old. I feel its my mission now to teach every one to draw. Because its just too easy. And I believe no one should be trying to get rich out of it.

You might like to try the detailed free drawing / cartooning / animation course I'm trying out presently is at
www.animationarchive.org to improve my cartooning skills.

Also I made a short animation about you can learn how to draw in one minute. I use this technique to teach children I look after every day. It works, because it really is quite basic. You'll wonder why no one told you sooner.

When you have a minute you might want to check out youtube "caricaturas" or "caricatures". Its sooo much easier to watch a live teacher than read a website anyday I reckon. You'll pick it up a lot faster.

You can learn how to do it, it's just going to take a lot of work! Get educated first, read books, search for free how to draw websites, just use any resource you have. Public libraries are great places to start.

Then, start practicing using those techniques you've learned about! Practice, and practice some more and your skills should improve.

Thats how I did it! :)

while reading a book, you're stimulating the human brain. You transform your life reading and literacy skills and also you along the way, become more literate. Even with today's modern technology, you need to be able to read still.
While you're watching t.v. can be good fun, it isn't doing anything to the human brain.
