Because there is usually a reason you want to sleep, like you are overly stressed out and your brain keeps telling you the 1 000 000 000 000 000 000 thing you have to do tonight, none of which you've even started.

Anxiety. You feel like you should be sleeping which makes you stay up longer cause you're brain is thinking too much about why it's awake.

cos my fuckin' dog's always lying in the bed, which means i have to change the sheets before i get in, and so i end up getting to sleep later than planned - I've drop kicked that muthaf**ka so many times, but he still ain't learnin'

its because you are trying to fall asleep, you need to relax, take a shower or a hot bath. that will help.
