What a stupid question. A home inspector is required check everything attached to the home you have hired him/her to do so. When purchasing a home, you hire an inspector to evaluate the home for their opinion on it's condition before you close on the sale.

Now, a building code inspector, employed by county government, should check everything in the home, or whatever is being built. They seldom check much of anything, but their job is to insure construction is conforming to local code laws.

A doorbell is actually on a home inspection list in Illinois. It is a permanent structure to your house. Even though it can be removed or replaced it is still and estential item, just the same as a knocker or ringer. A spa/hot tub is not on a home inspection list if it is not the only tub in a bathroom. It is not a estential living item. It is considered a luxuary item and is not required to be fixed or repaired if not in perfect working condition.

The home inspector that came through our home with the new owners checked everything. This was in Maryland. It took hours. Nothing was left out.

You need to look at the individual inspector's contract, they can eliminate multitudes of things and conditions.

The spa is the only thing I wouldn't inspect. I check everything else.

Anything and everything, if two nails are used to hold a board together, it has to be inspected.
