Why do some babies have a lot of hair when they are born and some have none at all? Also do you think genetics plays a part in if your baby will have hair or not. Like if I and my husband had a lot of hair do you think the baby would too?

hey

I think there's alot of factors. Genetics does play a role so if both parents have thin hair then the baby probably will too. But more that anything else it think ethnicity and colour had something to do with it. So it baby has dark brown or black hair then they look more obviously on the head and so the baby appears to have more hair. While light brown or blond hair appears lighter.

With ethnicity i think the type of hair really matters. Some families have thick hair while others have thinner finer hair, so babies are born with each strand thicker, while other have finer, silkier hair.

Hope that helps

LOL matter of luck and genetics combined. For example...my son had no hair when born and didn't really get a decent amount of hair to be called anything more then peach fuzz until his first birthday. My daughter is now 6 weeks old and was born with a head full at about an inch long and so far it hasn't fallen out. It has lightened from a dark brown to a reddish brown which is really odd since both sides of the family normally have blonde hair from infancy through childhood that darkens up as they hit the teen years. Go figure. No way to really know until each baby gets here.
Oh and the old wives tale about severe heartburn during pregnancy means baby has hair turned out to be true for me at least. No heartburn with my son even at 9 months along and had it severe big time for most of the pregnancy with my daughter.

I think if both the parents have dark hair, then the chances of the baby being born with a lot hair is a greater chance. Genetics is probably the number factor for having a baby with a lof of hair.

I would assume it is genetic. I have very thick hair and both of my children were born with a full head of hair. I gave my son his first hair cut at 8 days old because it was almost covering his ears! I also had horrible heartburn while I was pregnant with both, I had to keep maalox with me everywhere I went. So maybe that old wive's tale has some accuracy to it?

im this guy's GF and i do think that if your babies mexican it will have a lot of hair JK. but really sometimes babies are born with alot of hair but then it falls out and grows back thiner or it may not even grow back for a while it really just depends on the way the babys body is growing.

i think genetics does play a part. alot of people in my family had a lot of hair. i did and hubby did too. my baby has ALOT of hair. it never fell out and it is soooo long. i wont cut it till hes one. it is past his shoulders!

i honestly dont know if this is true because it is an old wives tale.... if you have a lot of heartburn the baby will have a lot of hair... everyone kept telling me that. i had TOO MUCH heartburn lol and my baby has TOO MUCH hair!!!

heres a pic by the way. hes 9 months.http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h29/ErikaNohelani/DSC02372.jpg

Yes, genetics is the key. I had hair when I was born, and so did both my children. And, contrary to what everyone told me would happen, their hair did NOT fall out. It kept growing.

Its deffinatley genetics. I have 4 sisters, 3 of whom have had 2 or more kids, all of their kids were born with no hair, all of us (as in my sisters and i) were born bald, but my son was born with beautiful dark hair, cos his daddy had that when he was born. So, i guess in our case, obviously his daddys genes took over.
