Your PC's motherboard is based on the Intel 845GL chipset. Your motherboard may just have PCI slots and no AGP slot. A PCI graphics card with its own memory may offer better performance than your current onboard Extreme Graphics 2. But do not expect anything spectacular with PCI graphics cards because the PCI bus is inherently SLOW for 3D graphics acceleration. You can never turn that 500L into a decent gaming PC.
For more serious gaming, consider upgrading to a motherboard with x16 PCIe slot. Even a cheap Conroe L processor and an ATI HD 2600 Pro or XT would be a spectacular upgrade over your outdated Extreme Graphics 2.

You can figure out what graphics card you need all by yourself. Just go download CPU-Z, then look if you have an AGP, PCI, or a PCI-E graphics card and then go to a place like newegg.com and look at the different models of graphics cards. Then all you will need to do is install the drivers and play, but make sure to uninstall the old graphics card drivers or you will run into problems.
