I am a big fan of Harry Potter. However, there are lots of other good books. I have been enjoying listening to unabridged recordings of books that can be borrowed from the library. Try Tom Sawyer, Encyclopedia Brown, Hardy Boys, Lord of the Rings, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, Ringworld, Master and Commander, and Treasure Island.
Read reviews on amazon.com. Search for a local library with worldcat.org. Listen to free recordings at librivox.org/.

Your chum's delusional. i've got examine the two series two times, and with Harry Potter I enjoyed it every time. yet when I examine Twilight the 2d time around, i found out how puffed up it became into. the tale wasn't written that properly while in comparison with Harry Potter, or perhaps frequently. I advise heavily. Harry Potter blew my freakin recommendations! the way Twilight ended became into basically rather disappointing for my area. in case you wanna examine some rather cheesy romance, then by all potential decide on Twilight. yet once you wanna examine some thing quite superb, then Harry Potter all the way.

Not a chance.
I skimmed through one of those Harry Potter books and I thought it was pretty good for kids but it's not that great. They are good books but until you've read a few essential classics and understood them you'll never know how far down on the list of Greatest Books Ever HP is.
I don't know if the movie will be any good (probably not) but if you like books aimed at a younger readership buy a copy of "The Dark Is Rising", it was written way back in the 70's but when I was 13 years old the Dark Is Rising series had me spellbound from start to end.

No, these books are popular now, but they aren't the best books ever written. I find J.R.R. Tolkien's books are much better written and even more interesting. They have many more characters and their is diversity of kinds of beings and diversity of talents, gifts and ways to interacting with their world. I think Tolkien's books are marvelous and without equal except by Shakespeare. You asked, I answered. So, don't anyone get mad at me, it's just a question! =)

No. It is not even included in the best 500 books ever written. One day, you will grow up and your tastes will improve and you will discover the wonderful world of real literature where books like As I Lay Dying, The Sound and the Fury, The Great Gatsby, Beloved, East of Eden, Don Quixote, The Road, Rebecca, Les Miserables, Ulysses, The Maltese Falcon, Great Expectations, Pride and Prejudice, Lolita, Gulliver's Travels, The Marble Faun, The House of Seven Gables, The Sun Also Rises and so many other books reign supreme. Right now, you have probably never even heard of those books, but hopefully you will. Harry Potter is not among them. And one day, you will know why. Selling a lot of books to a lot of children doesn't make a book a classic.

I wouldn't say the best EVER...but it's pretty good. It has changed the generation of lazy kids who don't read...I read in an article that it made tons of kids start reading and liking books, so I guess that's a pretty good achievement.
