Yes, my uncles would get it super hot and tell me they were going to burn the old guys butt and I would get no presents.....

We didn't have a fireplace, but I used to look at the chimney base by the furnace in complete puzzlement.

We never had a fireplace when I was growing up, of course it does freak me out now because my parents do have one and doesn't use it!!

No, no fire place. We did have a wood heating stove. When the fire died out, it froze in the kitchen. The rest of the time it froze everywhere inside the house.

....if we had fire in the fireplace ... that would mean that the cardboard cut out of our cardboard shack had caught fire ..... & that would mean no Christmas.
