A question every parent has faced.Common sense should prevail over hyper paranoia. Is anyone else within a hundred feet of the car? Are you in a high crime area? A house or apartment? Ten seconds literally or more like two minutes literally. I don't think what you describe barring other circumstance would be a big deal. And I have two older children 13 and 14 who got by just fine so I do know what I'm talking about.

You should never leave a child unattended in the car when you cannot see the child even for a few seconds. Bad thing can happen. It takes very little time for a snatch a car fire, whatever, to happen. Take the time and do the right thing rather than something you might regret for the rest of your life.

Regardless of whether or not it is "safe", it is illegal. If you get caught doing this your baby could get taken away by CPS and placed with strangers.
It's illegal, because people do stupid things, and kids end up getting hurt. Suppose you ran to get her diaper bag and then heard the phone ring, thought "just a few more seconds"... Before you know it you have been on the phone ten minutes, and the kid is either broiled or frozen out in the car.... or worse, people do something like this and then forget the kid is out there. Mistakes do happen... that law is there to keep you from making that mistake.

You have to use common sense with that. The problem is that often times people who "just need to run in for 30secs" get distracted by say a phone call, or the need to grab something else forgotten like lunch. 30 seconds is not a problem as long you remember that and don't allow it to escalate into anything longer. This of course is depending on you making sure that you are not locking the baby in the car with the keys, or parked on an incline that may allow for some unthinkable disaster. Thats my opinion.

I wouldn't leave my child for even 30 seconds! You don't know! The heat is not the biggest problem but kids get kidnapped in as little as 10 Seconds. It is just horrible idea to go to stores without someone of your own watching the child!

That's one of the few cases in which I think it's OK to leave your child in the car. Just be sure to lock the car and take the keys with you to make sure no one steals your car with the baby!

It is never ok to leave a baby in the car alone for any amount of time.
How many deaths need to occur before people realize this?

I never leave my daughter in the car I always take her with..
I once heard this story where a dad and his daughter were driving home.. well it was raining outside when they got home and his little girl was in the car.. well he ran inside really quick to get a umbrella and by the time he got outside someone had stole his car with him baby inside..
when he called 911.. he was frantic but the police wanted to charge him with neglect for leaving the child in the car..
that story was enough to scare me.. not to mention how many parents forget their children in cars too.. I wouldn't risk it

Sure it's OK, as long as all the pedophiles in your state can't get in your car and take your child in less time. I promise you most could get your child in less time then it takes you to get the diapers.

Depends on if you live in a nice neighborhood or not. As the person before me said, she could get kidnapped. But the chances of that are slim in thirty seconds.
She won't die from heatstroke or anything like that in even ten minutes.
I'd say that's prefectly fine, my mom used to do stuff like that all the time.
It's when you leave her in the car to go grocery shopping that there's a problem.
