It is up to you how much to tip and what level of service you get. Usually a tip is 15-20%. Christmas Day makes no difference in the amount of a tip unless you feel more generous.

Tipping should be at least 15% However on the holiday. and most people do not choose to work in a restaurant on the holidays. They have to work or lose their job. You should tip a minimum of 20% If you are not tipping because you think the service is bad maybe you should find the source. It may be the fault of something else. Maybe the cooks or maybe just really busy. If you have to wait for a table it is usually busy. Do not expect instant food. If you have your drinks and your order has been taken it is out of the servers hands in most cases.

I tip even if its bad service.... Unless the waitress is totally unbelievably rude or something.

This is pretty much what I live by...
Bad service= 10%
Average = 15-20%
Exceptional service = 25-30%

On Christmas day, you should tip more than what you usually do. Poor waitstaff has to work instead of spend time with their family. Put a smile on their face and make it worth their while.

I tip 15% if the service is bad. When I get Descent to Great service I tip 20%.

I have never not left a tip. That would show lack of class on my part.

the general rule is to tip 1/2 the tax. anything above that is up to yourself - at Christmas I would probably add a few quid because generally waiting staff don't get paid any extra for working Christmas day.

It depends on the service. Normal tipping is 15-20%. For the holidays if the service is good I'd say 25-30%, thats what I do.

I would tip at least 25% on Christmas....who wants to work on Christmas day? I'm sure most of the people working would much rather be home with their families. It's a holiday...and it's one meal...I would definitely do at least 25%.

20%, keep in mind the wait staff has to tip the busser, the bartender and a food runner, it adds up to be about 5% of the servers total sales. If you really like your server a extra few dollars will really make their day!!!

Always 20%, and since it is Christmas, you may want to be more generous if you feel you had excellent service. Servers do not make minimum wage, they depend on our tips. Not to mention there is alot of work involved. They are not just order takers, it can be a very frustrating job, especially when your trying to please someone who just can't seem to be pleased. If you feel your service was unsatisfactory, you should speak to a manager, but also, if you feel you had great service, you should make it known. Too many people only speak out when they have bad service.

Depends on the service. Check out the Holiday Tipping Etiquette Guide at http://money.cnn.com/popups/2006/consumer/holiday_tipping_guide/index.html
