I've noticed that some of the major shows in our tv market ("Desperate Housewives," Grey's Anatomy") will start showing new shows in January. I'm happy, but what happened? SERIOUS REPLIES ONLY PLEASE. Thanks.

The writers and the producters have not come to any agreement yet and the strike is still on. In fact, it's a stalemate with no end in sight.

Some companies have elected to begin production on some shows again for January release without the help of the Writers Guild. I know of Colbert Report, Jon Stewart's Daily Show and the Tonight Show.

There are people out there that can write and aren't in the guild. Maybe the network is using scabs? Unlikely in my opinion.

It's also possible that they already had written episodes from before the strike that they've been busy shooting and editing, and yet others already in the can. They may have realized early that this would be a long strike and decided to hold some fresh episodes for the second half of the season.

Strike is still on. They're just rationing their treasures.

If these guys had any smarts, they'd dig up old shows that didn't do well because they were before their time, and air them now. Maybe throw in a few British shows too. Vicar of Dibly anyone?

Anyone remember the film The Paper Chase? It was flipped into a series with a full season of episodes. It's owned by Showtime now I think. It's excellent and would be just the thing for 2008!

How about Aaron Sorkin's Sports Night? Two full seasons and hillarious! Very smart writing! I think NBC owns it.

The first season of Aaron Sorkin's The West Wing might be the best series I've ever seen. I think NBC has this one too.

Sadly, the writers are still on strike. Desperate Housewives has only one more episode ready :( and Grey's has...I think 2? (I don't know for sure) so they will air in January, and then they will be bumped up to a crappy time-slot while shows like Lost, and other mini-series/test series (like Canterbury Law...which have pretty much finished filming) take up those slots.

The last I heard, it was still on. I know that most shows had several episodes in the can before the strike occurred, so perhaps that's what they'll be showing.
