Most laptops allow you to do it. You should find a S-video output cable on the sides somewhere, connect this to the s-video input on your tv, and you have a video signal. But note this will only send out a video signal. Sound will still come out through your speakers.
For sound to go to your tv, you need a Y cable..found at Radio Shack, it basically connects to your headphone jack and sends that signal to your tv.
Once you do that, then right click and go to settings, and your should see settings for your LCD monitor as well as a setting for another monitor...which can be a tv. It's easy, you'll fiqure it out just by looking at the screen.

Regretably, you didn't mention anything about what you got besides the brand. Lots of more recent computers have S-video, which looks like a mouse but with different pins, plug but says "video" and get an svideo cable to plug into your Svideo jack on your tv. If you don't have an Svideo jack on your tv you can get a little converter to change to standard video. If you don't have a standard video input you could get a channel 3 converter, but by the time you get all this you will have spent about 60 bucks and the older sets make poor monitors. Alot of new flat panels have computer inputs to be used as monitors also.
The one thing you need to know after you find all the cables and adapters is
On the bottem left there is a function key with the writing in different color. Across the top keys are more symbols of that same color. You hold down the function key and press the symbol looking like a monitor to switch between internal screen and external plugs, or both
