m1 = (7 - 3) / (9 - 11)
m1 = 4 / (- 2)
m1 = - 2
m1 x m2 = - 1
(- 2) x m2 = - 1
m2 = ½

the equation for slope is y2 - y1 / x2 - x1
so 7 - 3 / 9 - 11 = 4 / -2 = -2
a line perpendicular to a slope of -2 would have a slope that is the opposite reciprocal: the slope perpendicular to -2 would be 1/2

take some graphing paper (or make yourself a makeshift graph by just drawing one on some paper) and plot those two points. Connect them with a line. Perpendicular means: at a 90° angle to __. In this case, 90° angle to that line you just made. Really, that line you just made (lets call it 'x') has just been moved around to face a different way, so the line perpendicular to x will have the same slope, but you CAN graph the new line to find the slope. remember, rise / run :)

slope = rise over run
rise = 3-7=-4
run = 11-9 = 2
=-2
Because the perpendicular is in the positive direction the answer is +2.

to find the slope you use this formula:
y2-y1/x2-x1
(11,3) (9,7)
x1=11
x2=9
y1=3
y2=7
so: 7-3/9-11 = 4/-2= -2
though the answer has to be positive since its perpendicular so its 1/2
