I agree with what others have said.

1. Count stitches. Every time I work a piece and don't count, I always end up with off rows.

2. Tension. Your tension looks a lot looser at the beginning. You could try to loosen and relax the rest of your stitches, complete the project, then block the tight section. But I'm not sure that would work with this piece.

You may need to stop and just start over with the advice and suggestions you've received.

Your end stitches really do look very nice. If you could start a piece and continue like that the whole way it would turn out very nice.

Good Luck!

Hi you are doing a great job!!! I think that the problem is that you are not finishing the pattern out. I have had this happen to me many times and have aunts who have the same problem that you are having. Just remember that you have a pattern like double crochet all the way across. When you do this make sure that you finish the pattern out. In other words you are leaving part of the pattern off. You may not be going back into the right hole when you turn your work. Usually when it says to chain two and turn you have to go back into the stitch right after the chain two. Hope this helps you out.

it looks like you started to crochet loose and then your tension got tight, a tip is that you dont pull on the yarn at all that tighten the stitches.

another reason is that you could be skipping stitches at the end of the row resulting decreases, count your stitches and make sure that you have the same number of stitches before you turn for the next row. dont worry this is VERY common in beginners, i had that same problem when i taught myself to crochet about 3 years ago.

if your not counting the chains at the beginning of the row as a stitches then you need to double up at the end of the row, thats probably where your problem began.

I may be wrong, but you need to count your stitches in the first row and then everytime you finish a row, count again. It looks to me like you have less stitches than when you started, unless that is what you intended. I have to keep counting my st. or I have the same problem and I've been crocheting for 45 years.

It looks to me like it is the bottom of the item, where you started. If I am correct, I think your stitches are getting tighter now than when you started (and much nicer too!) Keeping the same tension is very important in crocheting. I am not sure if pulling on it will help or when it is washed. Shame to have to start over but you may have to.
