so.......
What would happen to the sport if there werent fights?? Dont answer "it would suck!" honestly, what if the refs broke up fights right away and the players got suspended, from the beginning, what would the sport be like now?? Would it be part of those "no contact" sports?? What would players do to defend themselves? to defend their team? star player?
Its not a very good question, but its been a slow day......
Heres another...anyone going to the game (any game) tonight, and what is it about the hockey game atmosphere that makes going to games so much more fun than sitting around at home watching it on TV?
Im going to the sharks game tonight vs the DUCKS!! BOOO hence my pronger = booooo!! name. encourage it. lol. Go sharks

I'd hate to see it (stop fighting), all the Sean Avery's crawling out of the woodwork thinking they're heros with no worries of retribution. Cheapshots and stick infractions would be outrageously increased. There would be rampant alcoholism. I'd run out of beer by the start of the third since I could grab a re-fill every time the play stops without worrying about missing anything.
Not a good idea for sooo many reasons.

It would still be a great game. The international game and the NCAA are both excellent hockey and while fighting isn't banned, it does result in a 1 game suspension, thereby almost completely eliminating it, without eliminating the rough and tumble nature of the game.

Guess we would be left with the goal celebrations, breakaway chances, good hits, loose pucks in front of the net, bad calls by the ref's, amazing saves and the other 99.9% of the things that happen outside the fights..
Sure it would suck, but I think we would all find a way to enjoy what little we have left.
Actually, i will be going to perhaps see the Preds make it 6 in a row (losses).. STOP SUCKING NOW, GUYS!!!
Or suck enough so we get the #1 overall next year..
Hope you get your fill on duck tonite..

If they made a rule against fighting, it wouldn't stop it. The game is just too physical -- sure the refs would break up the fights, but it would take a generation of new players to really see guys stop dropping their gloves.
