You need to ask the coach of the team you are trying out for. No one here can give you as clear an answer as him or her.
In the meantime, start working out for strength, endurance and flexibility, and see if you can get into a tumbling class. Also try working on jumps and arm motions as well. (If you aren't sure what they are, see the site below.)

it usually depends on how competitive your high schools is. when i was on cheerleading, you had to:
learn a dance
learn a cheer
do the splits
do a toe-touch (sometimes 3 in a row)
show your gymnastic level
our tryouts were a week. sometimes other schools see how strong you are in order to perform stunts. they tried to test your memory by making you learn both a cheer and a dance. my advice is be loud but not too high-pitched (yell from the stomach), make your moves really sharp, and no matter what SMILE! even if you screw up, if you smile they will still be impressed. Maybe you can be inspired by the movie Bring it On. GOOD LUCK!

Depending on what your shooting for a how advanced your school is.
Varsity normally needs to know a good deal of tumbling like back handspring series, back tuck and such. Also basic jumps.
JV is a little less tough depending on the school.
If you have a Freshman team and your a freshman then if you have a good attitude and a smile you'll make it.
No matter what, even if you screw up just keep smiling and have fun.

at my school, you have to know how to do:
a back handspring
a round-off and
a back flip
tryouts:
you have to get up in front of everyone and do the cheers you learned and the dance/cheer routine.

I have a few things I would really like to say, but I am pretty sure I would get deleted from yahoo answers, so I am going to keep them to myself. But I am rolling in laughter at you and the funny thing I was going to say.
