because humans are predators. The hunters have eyes in the front. The hunted have eyes to the side.

It's because the eyes are designed to focus on the same objects/distances at any given time. When you "cross" your eyes, they're just doing what they would do if you were looking at something very, very close to your face.

Believe it or not, the combinations of movements of the eyes are coordinated and controlled by our brains. We are at complete liberty to look in any direction, but both eyes have to be involved in the endeavor.

Basically, we're not designed to look in two separate directions at once.

There is no need for it, and to view things that way would be confusing. It'd be like how it is when you poke on one of your eyes while the other eye remains stationary -- it would create double vision, basically. We also can focus to infinity by looking straight forward, but as objects come nearer to our nose, we have to bring our eyes together to keep focused on the object.

the muscles on the outer ridges of the eyes cant move that way so they cant turn back on themselves
it would be like you were bending your hands back so that the fingertips meet your wrists
it ain't gonna happen

It can be done but you have to have a lazy eye or some kind of freaky eye disorder

I never tried that one...that'll cure my boredom tonight. I can cross one eye and leave the other straight.

i know some people who can do it.
its because its no neccisary. thats why
we say "out of the corner of my eye"
you have limited vision there
