This reminds me of the four levels of competency:
Unconciously Incompetent ---> Conciously Incompetient ---> Conciously Competent ---> Unconciously Competent

Your question boils down to how long would it take a person to get to level two. I think it is directly proportioned to your level of ignorance.
But wait, sometimes it takes me ages to realize what I don't know and I am not very ignorant...
Oh boy, I just realized I DON'T know the answer.
Pretty fast hey!

Not always. If you walk in a room and everyone has a smirk on their face you know right away that you don't know something. But it is true that as you age you realize how oblivious you were to things earlier in your life. An example is at 16 I thought I owned the road and the faster you went the better. At 19 I thought I knew what it was to be married. Now at 29 I am sure I am oblivious to a lot that I will learn over the next decade.

Great question by the way.$$$

There's a saying...'The older I grow, the more I realize how little I knew when I knew it all'.

It just never ends...
