I am hypothyroid and I am having a really hard time with my weight. Does anyone have any suggestions or any experience with things that have helped them lose weight (besides the obvious)??

Thanks.

You need to first get the morning TSH around 1.0. Then exercise for at least 30 minutes 4-5 times a week. As far as diet, decrease carbs, increase fiber and avoid soy.

If that does not work, get the free t3 tested to make sure you are converting enough T4 into T3.

You also may want to take a fasting glucose and fasting insulin test. Many times the extra weight gained from hypothyridism can cause insulin resistance. Insulin resistance (prediabetes) makes it even more difficult to lose weight.

If on medication for the hypothyroidism it's possible that the dosage may need to be readjusted. Also, ask your doctor if your pituitary gland could be playing in to why the problem with losing weight.

I found out just recently from one of my doctors if there's a problem with the pituitary gland it can also create problems for the thyroid.
