I get really into questions about Raoul or Erik (Phantom)
I can see why Christine chose Raoul, he was safe, handsome, reliable and they had a simple, normal love for eachother. Her relationship with Erik was totally different. Erik was mysterious, completley devoted and yet terribly ugly. He was angry and emotionally unstable...I hate when people call him a maniac, like one of the above users did, because he has been hated his whole life. His mother forced him to wear a mask because she couldn't look at her own child. It wasn't Erik's fault that he looked the way he did...he had been denied love all of his life, shunned and hated for his face. When he met Christine and thought there might be a chance of happiness, of course he was going to do everything he could to win her. A life without love is terrible and makes people starve for it and that is exactly what Erik was, starved for love. Raoul would have provided Christine a safe and happy life and Erik would have given her anything she asked for, anything at all...I think Christine and Erik's relationship was dark and soulful. She could see what he was inside, she adored his music and he was music...he was everything she loved except for his face. Their love was so scorching that it had the power to burn them both and that is what ended up happening. Christine wasn't strong enough to look into Erik's face and see past it...and yet she did, even if for a moment. When she kissed him, she gave him all that he had ever wanted...love...at that moment she saw him, truly, and she kissed him anyway. I think that Erik loved her so much more than Raoul...he loved her enough to let her go even though it broke his heart. He knew exactly what I am telling you, that Raoul was a safe, handsome man...where Christine could live a normal life above in the light instead of in darkness with him. So really I don't know who Christine should have stayed with, only that Erik loved her more than Raoul ever could. I truly belive that Christine loved Erik but wasn't strong enough for his devotion and intenseness....

Yes, I just hate Raoul. I can't explain it, it's just........ugh. He seems overly perfect, a liitle fake. The Phantom shows his emotions and doesn't hide anything.

Christine was right to leave with Raoul.
Having the eternal devotion of a homicidal maniac is never a good idea.
