You can read the transcript or see Michelle Malkin's comments. I don't think its smart to attack the most popular and respected talk show host in the country. Rush normally doesn't go after republicans in the primary, so this is very strange.

Firstly, huckabee is an idiot, he is simply pandering to uneducated people, turning every issue into an opportunity to speak about religion. Honestly, this man has no shame.

Is it stupid for him to attack limbaugh, yes, because he is just going to distance himself from all the cons that don't care about fanatical religious issues. huckabee has placed all of his eggs in the religion basket, it is just a matter of time until his whole campaign is spoiled.

I couldn't care less if Limbaugh, or Malkin for that matter, is offended. They don't care when they offend other people. I do care that an egomaniac blowhard like Limbaugh can have any impact on the political process. What Huckabee said about Rush is absolutely true. In fact I've heard Rush say the same thing about himself. If he really wants to stay neutral then he should suck it up, put away his ego, and not respond to Huckabees comments.

No, it's never smart to attack the media. I know Rush would turn purple with rage to be included in that group, but he's part of it, whether he likes it or not. Moreover, a sizeable group of voters listens to the man, which is why he became the #1 talk show host in the country. He didn't get the job by answering a want ad. Even though the liberal media denigrates them as "mind-numbed robots" they're far more likely to get off their keisters and vote than the liberal elites are, and there are more of them to boot! In the immortal words of Forrest Gump, "Stupid is as stupid does!"

Its not going to work for him. His idea is to attack Rush as some big bad beltway guy in hopes of convincing republican faithful he'll do allright in the general election; but what Rush has said about Huck which is true - is that the democrats \ media want him to win because in a general election he has NO chance of winning against any Democrat.

Very smart indeed. He shows he's at least not an extreme right winger as I thought and brings him back a little to the middle.
Also, I question your assertion that Rush Limbaugh is the most popular.

George Bush tried this with Harriet Miers and his "Amnesty" program. It didn't work so well. And you know what happens when you repeat something which doesn't work. I think this will make some soft on Huckabee people possibly switch their position

Not in the primaries, but it wouldn't surprise me in a general election.

No one ever accused Huckleberry of being very bright. Look at all the lies he's already been caught in.
