Is The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd a book for women? I feel kind of odd reading it. Should I?

I hadn't thought about it, but most of the characters are women, and it focuses on the Virgin Mary. Still, what it has to say is for anyone with ears to hear, and that's the important thing. Maybe it's just all the female characters?
